KUMORTULI 2012 | A DIP IN HAPPENING CREATIVITY

KUMORTULI 2012 | ALBUM COVER

THEN I STARTED TALKING TO THE FIGURES
THE FIGURES IN SWEAT AND CLAY
MUSCLES OF IRON…
FIRES OF PASSION…
NARROW ALLEYS OF CREATIVITY…
DIM LIGHTS…WITH THICK SPECTACLES…
THEN i STARTED TO OBSERVE…THE ‘VISION’…
HER EYES…THEIR EYES….
BLESSINGS BEING STRUCTURED…
ANGERS BEING MANIFESTED….
RUTHLESSNESS TAMED….FASTENED….EXPRESSED….
IN THE MOST ELOQUENT MANNER….
I WISHED…I COULD TOUCH THE SOUL OF THE PLACE….
BUT IT DROWNED FAR DEEP
DEEPER THAN MY LENS COULD FATHOM…
I FELT MYSELF LUCKY
TO HAVE A DIP IN THE FLOWING STREAM OF HAPPENING CREATIVITY
AT A MUCH VISITED CORNER OF THE CITY OF JOY…
AT KUMORTULI.

Ranan’s ‘Rangeeniyan’ | An Ecstasy in Colours

Ranan presented ‘Rangeeniyan’ as part of ICCR Kolkata’s Horizon Series on 14th September, 2012 at The Satyajit Ray Auditorium, Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR, Kolkata.

“lyrical, graceful and romantic. Simply mesmerising.”
– The Telegraph, Calcutta. June 2006

“a revelation … an intense journey of passion”
– Daily News and Analysis, Jaipur. February 2012

Rangeeniyan’ interlaces the moods of Indian musical genres such as Ghazal, Geet and Thumri along with corresponding moods of the seasons. The predominant emotion in these musical forms is Love – Shringar – in its many varied shades and experiences ranging from the joy of togetherness to the pain of separation and the sweetness of reunion.

The restless thirst of Summer, the eager hope of the Monsoon. Blossoming love in Sarat, melancholy parting in Hemant. Despondent bitterness in Winter, joyful reunion in Spring.

Rangeeniyan evokes this fluid journey through the sensuous and romantic poetry of Indian musical genres and the lyrical beauty and imagery of Kathak.
